Wedding Tiered Cakes ... My Experience

Salam.

I have some experience in baking and decorating wedding tier cakes. I was introduced to the world of Sugarpaste (as per the English) or Fondant (as per the American) whereby I learned about decorating tier cakes from Madam Charijah in 1992. As I mentioned in my first post, I gave my husband a 2-tier cake for our wedding as part as "hantaran" gift. The day was 29 July 1994.

When I read that Wilton courses will be introduced in Malaysia by Brivan Creative, I was excited. So, in August 2005, I took the opportunity to enrol in a 3-day Wilton's cake decorating course, covering level 1-3, which was conducted at Sunway College. The instructor is none other than Ms. Rosalind Chan. Thanks for introducing this course into Malaysia given that I knew about Wilton and it's US classes since the 90's.

My favourite class in cake decorating so far is definitely in May 2007 where I learned decorating tier cakes using stringworks and floating extension. Of course, the instructor was Rosalind. It seems that my interest in mainly in piping using royal icing. I hope I would have the chance to learn the lambeth style and stringwork particularly on extension from renowned cake decorator specialists such as Eddie Spence MBE in the nearest future.

Miniature cakes... for Aliyya 's & Imran 's Wedding on 7 July 2007

The miniature cakes were presented to the guests who attended the dinner in conjuction with Aliyya and Imran's wedding. I had earlier prepared kek hantaran and a 3-tier wedding cake for them. I am so exhausted thoroughout the week. This is when you would say... I Need My Sleep!!!

The time required for making these miniature cakes were long. It takes a lot of passion and perseverance. It would also require a lot of royal icing, fondant, butter, sugar, etc.....

Here are some of the miniature cakes that I have done for the event..

Assalamualaikum! Welcome to LINAS Little Cottage!

First and foremeost, thank you for visiting my page.

A little bit of myself... I a wife and a mother of 4 precious children. I live in Taman Sri Andalas, Klang. You can call me LINAS. The name comprises my initial, together with my 4 children's initials. Our place is known as LINAS Little Cottage.

I love cake decorating and flower making. I hope, some day, my children will share the same passion with me, supporting me in what I love to do and vice versa. Currently, I'm doin these activities on a part-time basis as I have a full-time job.

Just to share with you, I started cake decorating in my early 20's. As a birthday present, my parents allowed me to attend a cake decorating class at Mdm Charijah's place in Taman Maluri. The year was 1992. There, I learned about sugarpast, royal icing, pastillage and others. Thanks Mom and Dad.. Love you both very much!!!

Then, I got to know a company called WinSin.. which was located at Jalan Ipoh. There, I was introduced to Wilton products. The company has moved to Bandar Manjalara and is now known as Pastry Pro. I've bought a lot of Wilton cake decorating books from them and my favouratios are the Wilton's decorating books part 1, 2 and 3.

So, with the knowledge that I have acquired at that time, I had prepared a 3-tier wedding cake for my brother and birthday cakes for my father, nephews and nieces (and even for my 23rd birthday).

In addition, most memorable, I prepared a gingerbread house whch rest on a moist chocolate cake, a 2-tier wedding "fruit cak" and a heart shape sugar box, as part of the "hantaran" for my dearest husband. I didn't even wear henna on my finger for the "nikah" because I was too busy preparing my hantaran. The day was 29 July 1994. At least now, I can say that I baked and decorated my own wdding cake as my heart desired.

That's all for now. Wassalam.
